A Dalek

Heres an attempt at drawing a dalek. I used my Wacom Bamboo tablet, to assist. Ironically the small icon of a Dalek was the first thing I created. However I used reference imagery to create this.

I used this technique to make the overall shape 3D by creating the illusion of depth. However If I was to do another version of this I would take my time and make the shading follow the actual shape of the metal and rubber parts.

The main reason I am proud of this image is because it looks like a Dalek and because I learned a new way of shading, I would call this sloppy however having spent more time and detail towards the shape would make this image stand out better. I found out that if you place a solid black shadow over the area where you want it to be darker or sink in, that there is no reason to apply multiples coats where you can alter ones transparency and get the same effect, Masking the shadow can also give the illusion of a soft shadow.
